Under the direction of Dr. Leslie A. Pal and Dr. Piotr Dutkiewicz, CGPM will contribute to and strengthen SPPA/FPA capacity in the following four areas:
- Research – by providing new research opportunities for individual faculty members and SPPA by participating in CGPM’s projects, seminars and conferences. It also will provide additional opportunities for field research and in future will engage in policy debates in the field of good governance both in and outside of Canada;
- Teaching – by organizing speakers’ series, inviting renowned scholars, developing new cases (linked to field work) and teaching tools based on international examples;
- Institutional Capacity of SPPA (and other FPA units) – by stimulating institutional links with Canadian and international research centres and universities, NGOs and organizations that work in the fields of northern development, local governance, labour market, gender (those areas in which SPPA has shown comparative advantages);
- Publications – CGPM will open new publishing opportunities, mainly for graduate students and new faculty by organizing a new e-journal on public management reform.
Recently CGPM entered a partnership with a Valdai Club (see : Partnership)
The Valdai International Discussion Club
Is an international framework for the leading experts from around the world to debate on Russia and its role in the world. It was setup in 2004 by the Russian news and Information Agency “RIA Novosti”, Council on Foreign and Defense Policy and Russia Profile magazine.
The club’s mission is to create an international framework, where representatives for the Russian elite could debate on the development of the country and its role in the world with leading foreign experts.
The club’s main goals are:
- to create an international venue where foreign experts could receive information about Russia and Russian society from reliable sources;
- to demonstrate the diversity of social and political views on key issues in domestic and foreign policies;
- to give international experts an opportunity to meet with top Russian leaders.
The club unites leading foreign experts and journalists who analyze Russia’s politics, economy and culture. Permanent international members form the club’s backbone. Different foreign experts are invited every year. Russian members include political scientists, economists, journalists, public figures and policymakers with different views on events in Russia and abroad, and also representatives of executive and legislative power.
