The Carleton Human Rights Society is an academic
society associated with the Human Rights Program
at Carleton University. We are concerned with raising
awareness of human rights violations and fighting
global injustice. We are completely student driven,
and take up the issues that concern our members around
the globe!
What do we do?
Raising Awareness:
From issues like the genocide in the Darfur region,
education in Kenya, death squads in Latin America,
to violence against women in Canada a main goal the
HRS is to raise the awareness of our fellow students
on campus about serious human rights issues that
are happening around the world and close to home.
Raising Funds:
Throughout the year, members start campaigns to
raise much needed financial or material support.
For example, last year the HRS held a winter clothing
drive on campus for Ottawa’s homeless shelters.
One place we hope to raise funds for this year is
a single-mother daycare in the Guatemalan highlands.
Becoming Active:
Make connections in the community and abroad, get
students involved in the fight for global human rights!
Social gatherings:
We have movie nights and other social gatherings,
come out and make friends with other people passionate
about human rights!
Who can join?
Any and everyone can join the HRS! |
