Medieval Monasticism
The development of the ideas and institutions of the ascetic life during the Middle Ages. The daily life, the mental universe and the contributions of medieval hermits, monks and nuns, and their interaction with secular society. (Field a)Prerequisite: a 2000-level history course, or third-year standing and 1.0 credit in history.
Lectures three hours a week.
