Solar Cells and Applications
Semiconductor band structure, photogeneration, the solar spectrum. Detailed analysis of monocrystalline silicon solar cells. Solar cells based on thin film materials: amorphous silicon, III-V materials, organics, titania-dye cells. Cells for concentrator systems. Photovoltaic power systems, combined photovoltaic-solar thermal systems. Solar cells for building envelopes.Prerequisite: ELEC 2501 and ELEC 2507 and fourth-year status in Engineering.
Lectures three hours per week, laboratories/problem analysis three hours per week.
