Sunsets/Nightfalls
Gord Garner

I was always a slow learner
Yet I obeyed the home by sunset rule quickly
The years went by in a series of sunset photo op moments
There we were in love doing our thing together
Isn't it wonderful when you share special moments
Yet how quickly we became strangers after
That single moment of clarity when I realized
We were in fact not sharing anything
It was you who was watching the sunset
Me I was watching the night fall
One of us mourning the light
One of us welcoming the darkness
Perhaps that was why it was at dusk
The middle moment
Sun gone yet light out still
We fled to our bed and bodies
The flicker of candles
The shadows of joined bodies
For there was bliss for both before we knew better
