Hungrily
I breathe the flaming colour
of sumac
that lines the bike path,
trying to draw it all inside me.
I greedily collect branches,
wanting to grasp and hold on to
this colour;
this Fire.
What plant is this
that can grow brilliant fire from its branches?
I, too, have this Fire within me,
but rarely manage to release it
as purely,
as passionately
as this sumac has.
I want to take this Fire with me
that maybe its passion
would fill me, too,
and move me to create with such purity.
