Computer Communications
Layered protocol architectures, OSI. Physical media, physical layer interfaces, data transmission. Data-link protocols, multiplexing, polling. LANs, IEEE 802 standards, performance. Switched Ethernets, FDDI, bridges. Wide area networks, packet-switching networks, X.25. Frame relay, internetworking, DoD protocols, TCP, UDP. ATM LANs, adaptation layers, traffic issues.Prerequisite: STAT 2605 or STAT 3502 (may be taken concurrently), and fourth-year status in Biomedical and Electrical, Electrical, Computer Systems, Software, or Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering, or third-year status in Communications Engineering.
Lectures three hours a week, laboratory three hours alternate weeks.
