Greek Philosophy and the Western Tradition
The Greek tradition from its pre-Socratic beginnings to Hellenistic and Roman philosophy (Cynicism, Epicureanism, Stoicism, Scepticism); focus on Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Its conservation and reappropriation in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.Precludes credit for PHIL 2006, CLCV 2006, PHIL 2007, CLCV 2007, PHIL 2008.
Prerequisite: 0.5 credit in PHIL, or second-year standing.
Lectures three hours a week.
