Controversies in Rights Theory
Selected controversies in rights theories and practices. Illustrative questions may include: Are human rights culturally relative? Can rights be justified after the demise of natural rights philosophy? Do rights undermine "difference"? Do communities benefit from a rights-based culture? Are "rights" forms of governance?Precludes additional credit for LAWS 3503 [1.0] (no longer offered).
Prerequisite: fourth-year Honours standing.
Seminars three hours a week.
