The Scramble for Africa, 1876-1918
The causes of partition, African peoples' attempts to resist colonization, and the means by which Europeans succeeded in conquering Africa. The early years of colonial rule and the impact of colonial rule on African social and political life. (Field d)Prerequisite: a 2000-level history course or third-year standing and 1.0 credit in history.
Lectures three hours a week.
