The Reshaping of Europe, 1848-1871
A study of political conflict in Europe from the revolutions of 1848 to the Franco-Prussian War, emphasizing the international and domestic dimensions of the Italian and German struggles for national unification, their impact on France and Austria, and the historical consequences of “unification from above”. (Field b)Prerequisite: a 2000-level history course or third-year standing and 1.0 credit in history.
Lectures three hours a week.
