Introduction to Bioinformatics
Practical exploration of the broad scope of bioinformatics; theory, implementation, applications and limitations of computational approaches. Topics may include introductory programming, data modeling, biological databases, sequence alignment, phylogeny, pathways and biological networks. Also listed as
BIOC 3008.
Precludes additional credit for
BIOC 4006.
Prerequisites:
BIOL 2104;
BIOC 2200 or
BIOL 2200; or permission of the Biochemistry Institute. Background in computer programming and/or evolutionary concepts is recommended.
Lecture 1.5 hours a week, computer workshop three hours a week.
