In addition to any examination which may be required in individual courses, a master's candidate who is writing a thesis will be expected to undertake either an oral defence of the thesis or a comprehensive examination in his/her field of specialization, or both. Please refer to Thesis Specifications, section 12.5, item (d) (i) Master's, for submission deadlines. When the degree is taken by course work, a comprehensive examination may be required. It is important to note that individual departments may have additional or particular requirements.
Some departments specify deadlines for the submission of thesis proposals and for comprehensive examinations. Students should check the calendar entry for their department.
