The Underhill Graduate Student Colloquium

For the past seventeen years graduate students in the Department of History at Carleton University have organized an annual colloquium in which master's and doctoral students from all disciplines are invited to present papers on any history-related topic. The primary objective of the colloquium is to facilitate the original research of graduate students by providing a public forum for the presentation of their work. In addition, the colloquium is designed to promote dialogue between those in different disciplines and to encourage interaction between faculty and graduate students. Participating graduate students will present some of their original research in a 15-20 minute talk, hear valuable commentary on their work and gain experience for future conference presentations.
One noted feature of the colloquium is a keynote address delivered by a distinguished guest speaker. This year the keynote speaker will be Dr. Antoinette Burton of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, author of Empire in Question: Reading, Writing, and Teaching British Imperialism.
