Registration in TTMG 5104 requires some extra steps. In order to register for TTMG 5104 you need to make a Registration Override Request on Carleton Central for this course, and submit a special supervised studies sheet together with a course outline to the Systems department. You can also email both to Emily Byron. If you do not have a supervisor, enter "Not assigned" on the form.

Course descriptions

TTMG 5001T/P: Management Principles for Engineers Outline

Develops a common level of knowledge among students on topics in product and service development, technical entrepreneurship and commercialization. The topics listed cut across functional management areas and are examined from the perspective of the manager of the development project. These topics build on the literature in the fields of project management, industrial marketing, competitive strategy, organizational behavior, leadership and managerial economics.

TTMG 5002T/P: Telecommunications Technology Outline

Provides a mature perspective of technology from which the salient properties of new and competing systems and technologies may be analyzed and understood, to act as the basis for effective management of the innovation of new and emerging technology.

TTMG 5003T/P: Issues in Telecommunications Outline

Discussion of key readings relevant to technology innovation management. Topics include the introduction of unique aspects of technology company growth, new products to the global market, technology sourcing, intellectual property rights, industry trends, new business opportunities and product identification, industry characteristics, regulation and international competition.

TTMG 5004T/P: Management of Design Systems Outline

Prepares students to undertake research in technology innovation management. Topics include: defining interesting research problems and hypotheses relevant to technology innovation management, understand research approaches used in the field of technology innovation management.

TTMG 5005T/P: Management of Telecom System Design Outline

The focus is on the groups that evolve the architecture, business, and technological infrastructures of firms and on product management. Topics include: relationship among unserved and dissatisfied customers, architecture and product management; appropriability regimes; technology and complementary assets; managing projects that deliver products at different stages of their life cycles.

TTMG 5006T/P: Management of Software Engineering Projects Outline

Models for the development of software. Software project management tools. Quality control. Risk assessment and management. Agile and open source development.

TTMG 5100T/P: Communications Standards Outline

Importance of standards in for product development and business. Relevant public standards classified by type. The standards setting process. Formulation and execution of standards setting strategies. Integrating the firm's standards program with engineering processes, product management, systems groups and marketing.

TTMG 5101T/P: Integrated Product Development Outline

The new product introduction process and time-based competition, basic concepts of integrated product development (concurrent engineering), the voice of the customer, quality function deployment, cross-functional teams, integrating information systems and technical tools, organizational support, manufacturing and design, cost estimation, implementation problems.

TTMG 5103T/P: Advanced Topics in Telecom Technology Mgmt Outline

In-depth exploration of an advanced topic in the field of technology innovation management. A different topic is covered each semester and more than one section, with different topics, may be offered in the same semester. Recent courses have focused on open source and business ecosystems.
