New OSBR issue on technology entrepreneurship

Common to all the articles is the approach to entrepreneurship that is nurtured in the TIM program. TIM students place well in the Carleton Nicol Challenge

Congratulations to Chris McPhee and Natasha D'Souza for placing in the top 8 and top 15, respectively, at the Carleton Nicol Challenge. Chris submitted an idea for a new geolocation app that allows people to leave comments in physical locations, and Natasha an idea for a facial-emotion recognition app. More


New OSBR issue on collectives

The new issue includes articles on the Keystone Off-the-Shelf (KOTS) platform, deal-making processes, risk management using collectives, and models for company-led open source projects. Michael Darch to become Executive in Residence

Michael Darch has been appointed as Executive of Residence. He will advise students in the TIM program on issues related to global business and technology innovation. Mr. Darch is currently the executive director of OCRI's Global Marketing group, and brings over 35 years of experience in technology management, innovation and economic development to the program. Silver medal for Lead to Win

The Lead to Win program was awarded a silver medal in the Non-Profit Organization of the Year category at the Ottawa Business Achievement Awards. The Lead To Win program mentors business startups, generates jobs and provides investment for the cash-strapped technology sector. The program was founded by Prof Tony Bailetti in 2002.

Raising venture capital for technology start-ups

David Aranoff and Charles Chi have agreed to speak at Carleton on Oct 5th from 9:00-10:00 am in Loeb C164. The Loeb Building is denoted LA in the campus map. Admission is free and all are invited. The topic of their talks is on raising money for technology start-ups. Both heavy weights work in California and are visiting Ottawa thanks to President Runte's efforts.

The TIM program is a co-sponsor of the Gandhi, King, Ikeda exhibit from Sep 27 to Oct 2 in the Loeb Lounge. The exhibit opens Mon, Sep 27, at 11:00 am. Lawrence Carter, the Dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel from Moorehouse College, will give the keynote speech on Oct 2 at 2:00 pm in the Kailah Mital Theatre. More

Technology entrepreneur Ian Graham founded The Code Factory in 2008, and has been making inroads into the Carleton community ever since through the Technology Innovation Management program. The master's program for entrepreneurial engineers helps companies build wealth at the early stages of their business. Many TIM students have gone on to Lead to Win, a mentorship and development program for new technology businesses in the capital region. Read more in the Carleton University Magazine.

March 31 is BigBlueButton day

The TIM program is the birthplace of BigBlueButton (BBB) and wishes to celebrate the success of BBB and the people behind it --> Richard, Fred, committers, translators, students who helped develop it, students and professors that pioneered its use, founders of companies and managers of organizations who use BBB. This is the first time that a Canadian university program has been successful at establishing a worldwide ecosystem anchored around an open source project.

To recognize BBB's achievements we will hold a get together on March 31, 4-7 p.m. at Baker's Grill, 4th floor of University Centre. RSVP to weiss@sce.carleton.ca
