And in the beginning, God said,

         “Let there be light,
         And land,
         And words,
         And man.”
And it was good.

ii.
And God said,

         “Speak, my son!”
And Adam stumbled forward
Steady as a newborn calf
And said,

         “Babblebabblebabblebabblebabblebabble”*

         “Jesus Christ, boy!”
And Eve said,
         “Jesus who?”

And God commanded,

         “What is this gibberish?
         Speak American!”

v.
And Adam said,

         “If poetry be the language of angels,
         Then surely what I say is divine!”
And Eve said,
         “Poetry is a dead art.”

And Adam said,

         “We are all sons of God.”

And God saw that it was good.
