Conference Welcoming Remarks

Monday, November 20, 2011

I am honoured to be the project manager for the 2012 Carleton University Model NATO Conference, hosted in Ottawa from March 1-4, 2012. This year will mark the eleventh edition of the conference and I am hopeful that it will be the most successful yet. I have the fortune to be working with an incredibly talented team of individuals who will be the men and women to deliver next year's conference to you.

While I have been part of Model NATO for a few years, my experience has not fully prepared me for the challenges of organizing the entire event. This is why I want to extend my thanks for the ongoing support of Todd MacDonald and Joyce Mankarios, who were last year's project leader duo, and their invaluable input towards putting the conference together.

The registration for the conference is open as of November 18th,and will close in a month's time on December 18th. I urge you to register your delegations as soon as possible!

Finally, my sincere thanks to our sponsors, including the Centre for Security and Defence Studies (CSDS) of the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Security and Defence Forum of the Department of National Defence (DND), the Conference of Defence Associations Institute (CDAI) and the Canadian Association for Security and Intelligence Studies (CASIS). I also strongly value the participation and support of the embassies throughout Ottawa, as well as DND and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), for conducting delegation briefings.

Sincerely,

Georgi Ivanov
2012 CSDS Model NATO Fellow and Project Manager
