CSDS Speaker Series 2010-11

Israel vs. Iran:
Preparing for the Nuclear Threat

Yaakov Katz
Senior Military and Defense Correspondent, The Jerusalem Post

Yaakov Katz is the senior military correspondent and defense analyst for The Jerusalem Post, Israel's leading English daily, and the Israel correspondent for the London-based Jane's Defense Weekly.  Mr. Katz spent January 2009 with the Israel Defense Forces along Israel's border with the Gaza Strip, where he lead the paper's coverage of Israel's war against Hamas. In July and August 2006, Mr. Katz covered Israel's war against Hizbullah for the Post and USA Today. Mr. Katz has also covered settler affairs for the Post and was chief correspondent during the Gaza Strip disengagement in the summer of 2005. His popular weekly column, called Security and Defense, and his frequent media appearances, provide readers with a behind-the-scenes look at the decision-making process in the Israeli defense establishment.

Mr. Katz also writes extensively on Israel's military stance on Iran's nuclear program, and is currently completing a book titled, "Israel vs. Iran: Preparing for the Nuclear Threat" -- the subject of his presentation. In it, Mr. Katz describes the behind-the-scenes story of the ongoing conflict between Israel, Iran and its proxies -- Hizbullah and Hamas -- as well as Israeli efforts to stop Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons.
