Paul Jenkins was appointed Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada in April 2003 for a term of seven years. He was the Bank’s Chief Operating Officer and, along with the Governor, was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank. Mr. Jenkins’ duties included acting for the Governor, overseeing strategic planning and coordinating all the Bank’s operations, sharing responsibility for the conduct of monetary policy as a member of the Bank’s Governing Council, and participating in fulfilling the Bank’s responsibilities for promoting financial stability.

Mr. Jenkins graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1971 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He then attended the London School of Economics and Political Science, where he received a Master of Science degree in economics in 1972. In 1982–83, he continued his studies in economics at Princeton University. Mr. Jenkins joined the Bank of Canada in 1972.
